Battery Charging Tips for Best Practices

Writer: Triad Electric VehiclesTriad Electric Vehicles

Batteries cannot store more energy than their capacity allows. Do not repeat charging cycles immediately after a full charge. Do NOT use more than one charger at a time. Only use the charger the battery was engineered for.

Never repetitiously recharge the battery over and over in an attempt to “fill up” or “top off” the battery or to attempt to get a low voltage to rise after a full recharge. Batteries cannot store more energy than their capacity allows. Do not repeat charging cycles immediately after a full charge. Do NOT use more than one charger at a time. Improper charging practices and negligent battery maintenance can lead to electrical malfunction.

Do not ever under any circumstances attempt to use the wall socket cord only to charge your battery. Use the entire charger box to regulate proper voltage and amperage into the battery. Do not use aftermarket batteries that are not OEM Triad batteries. DO NOT use the Triad charger to charge aftermarket batteries.  For more info on aftermarket batteries READ MORE HERE: https://www.3wheelelectricscooter.com/post/aftermarket-batteries-they-re-all-the-same-right

Do not allow the battery to sit for more than 4 weeks without at least checking the battery's countdown timer to see if you need to do one short charge to balance the cells of the battery.

Keep dormant batteries charged between 70%-80% while not in use. By allowing battery to drop below operating voltage you may stunt the cells preventing a full recharge which may cause irreparable damage the battery. All batteries lose state of charge in dormancy. Maintain regular battery charging practices once every 30 days. Discontinue charging damaged batteries.

DO NOT STORE THE BATTERY IN EXTREME COLD (BELOW 45°) OR EXTREME HEAT (ABOVE 85°).

Repetitive charging in a short time will create too much heat from the electrical current and the battery cells will not have enough time in-between charges to balance or cool down. Improper charging practices and negligent battery maintenance can lead to electrical malfunction. The BMS is designed to prevent this from occurring and may lock the battery from being able to be used during improper charging practices, misuse, abuse or neglect. DO NOT BRUTE FORCE CHARGE THE BATTERY IN AN ATTEMPT TO BYPASS THE BMS SYSTEM BY REPEATING THE HARD RESET ON THE CHARGER AND CHARGING THE BATTERY OVER AND OVER AGAIN IF THE BATTERY IS NOT ACCEPTING A CHARGE.

DO NOT LEAVE THE CHARGER CONNECTED TO THE BATTERY AFTER CHARGE CYCLE COMPLETES. DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CHARGER AFTER FULL RECHARGE. BATTERY BACK FEEDS POWER TO THE CHARGER TO KEEP GREEN LIGHT LIT IN ORDER TO ALERT USER BATTERY IS FULL.

DO NOT LEAVE CHARGER CONNECTED OVERNIGHT WHILE SLEEPING. BE AWARE AND ALERT WHEN CHARGING BATTERIES.
